Fred Wilpon Finally Addresses "The Whole Dodger Thing"

Fred Wilpon has often been accused of trying to morph the Mets into his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers.  On Monday evening after the Mets game against the Florida Marlins, Wilpon finally addressed the issue when he released the following statement:

Greetings customers Mets Fans,

As you know, as a young man I was a big Brooklyn Dodgers fan. It has been suggested that we went a bit overboard in making our new ballpark Citi Field too "Dodgerish", what with the Ebbets Field facade, Jackie Robinson Rotunda, Pee Wee Reese kiddie pool, Don Newcombe Gardens & the Ralph Branca mens room.

We understand that while the Dodgers are a big part of the Mets history that there was another team that played just as big a role.  We want to show the segment of our customer fan base who grew up near Coogan’s Bluff and idolized the New York Giants during the 1940s and early to mid ‘50s that we are responsive to their concerns as well. To that end, we have a plan to tweak the hated fence configuration at CitiField starting on Opening Day of the 2012 season.

Here’s the artist’s rendition of what the stadium will look like.

  1. Very funny.....now we just have to move the clubhouse to center field!

  2. I always said the ballpark should have the exterior of Ebbets Field and the interior dimensions of the Polo Grounds.
