The Mets return home to Citi Field tonight to take on the Marlins and while most managers prefer the taste of home cooking, Terry Collins is not so thrilled to be back. The reason? Collins claims that a cost cutting move by the Mets is making him look bad as a manager.
The move in question is a new lineup card the Mets had printed recently. Apparently someone told the Wilpons they could save 68 cents on markers by pre-printing the positions on the lineup cards they use at home. Unfortunately no one asked Collins about this.
"You ever noticed if Carlos Beltran needs a day off at home, I still bat F-Mart or Duda or whoever cleanup.", Collins told The Apple. "Do you think I want to do this? It makes me look like an idiot. Unfortunately thanks to these cards if I wanted to bat F-Mart seventh in the order he would have to catch and we all know that Fragile Fernando wouldn't last an inning behind the plate. We're one printer screw up from batting our pitcher leadoff"
The Wilpons are standing behind their decision. "Terry knew what this was when he signed here.", said Jeff Wilpon. "This is a business and we're about making money and saving money wherever possible. We made a business move and we stand behind our choice. If Terry wanted to win games he should've signed elsewhere."
